IUPAC Name:(2S)-2-amino-3-carbamoylpropanoic acid
This amino acid participates in the functions of the brain and nervous system. L-Asparagine is a non-essential amino acid and is closely related to Aspartic Acid, and can be manufactured from this nutrient. First isolated in 1932 from asparagus, it is widely available in plant protein, but a great volume of information is not available. It is required by the nervous system to maintain equilibrium and is also required for amino acid transformation from one form to the other -- done in the liver. Typically found in beef, poultry and eggs, L-Asparagine has no known toxicity.
